U.S. chipmaker AMD and ADI announced on Nov. 17 local time that they have reached a settlement of their previous legal dispute over semiconductor patents.
According to Reuters, AMD and ADI have resolved all ongoing patent litigation under mutually agreed terms. As part of the settlement, the two companies committed to a technology collaboration to bring next-generation solutions to their communications and data center customers.
AMD and ADI end all pending semiconductor patent litigation
ADI had reportedly filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Ceres (now an AMD subsidiary) in December 2019 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, focusing on Ceres' unauthorized use of eight key ADI analog-to-digital converter (ADC) technology patents in at least two of its high-end Zynq UltraScale+RFSoC products. for its part, ADI sought damages and seeks to prohibit Celeris from selling any products that infringe its patents.
In February, AMD completed its acquisition of Xilinx. AMD is the world's leading FPGA vendor, with a market share of more than 50% in 2020, according to the General Administration of Market Supervision, and the number one FPGA vendor in China.
