Murata has added the MRMS591P and MRMS581P, all-round AMR sensors that detect magnetic fields in all directions (XYZ multi-axis), to its lineup of magnetic force sensors. Mass production of these products has begun.
In recent years, there has been an increase in demand for further improvements in security functions in the smart meter and security industry. For example, in the case of smart meters, the improper act of placing a strong magnet near the device to stop the meter is seen as a pressing problem.
Conventional magnetic sensors can only detect magnetic fields in the single-axis direction, so accurate detection of magnetic fields in the multi-axis direction becomes a challenge. In response to this problem, Murata has developed a full-range AMR sensor that can detect magnetic fields even when the magnetic field direction is uncertain by applying its unique technology in AMR sensors.
Conventional magnetic sensors generate magnetoresistance for single-axis direction detection to achieve ON output. The new product in this mass production is capable of switching between ON and OFF outputs regardless of the direction of the magnetic lines of force through a careful design of the resistance mode.
In addition, the expansion of IoT devices has increased the number of cases where sensors are operated by battery drive, so it is necessary to achieve low power consumption. This product has a built-in IC circuit that handles the ON/OFF output, and because it operates intermittently internally, it is able to detect magnetic force with lower power consumption than products that are driven continuously.
In addition, the internal circuitry has been further optimized so that the MRMS581P achieves ultra-low current consumption of 0.3µA at 3V compared to conventional products.
This ultra-low current consumption and wide detection range also meet the need to replace reed switches with magnetic switches that have a lower risk of failure or breakage and higher reliability.
