According to foreign media reports, Samsung has cancelled plans to increase its photoresist suppliers due to failure to find a supplier that meets the requirements, and South Korea's Dongjin Semichem will continue to be Samsung's sole photoresist supplier.
Sources say storage giant Samsung has cancelled plans to increase photoresist suppliers
So far, it is reported that the photoresists used by Samsung Electronics to produce 3D NAND chips are still being supplied exclusively by Dongjin Semichem. Samsung has been trying to reduce its reliance on the photoresist company, and reports indicate that while Samsung has been in contact with at least four potential Japanese photoresist suppliers, these vendors have been unable to meet Samsung's thickness requirements.
It is understood that prior to the mass production of the first generation of 3D NAND flash memory in 2013, Samsung Electronics worked in depth with Dongjin Semiconductor and made all process steps public to encourage development. Subsequently, Dongjin Semiconductor successfully developed a material 30% thicker than the existing KrF photoresists.
